ある日、
ローマの将軍「アントニウス」率いる
ローマ軍がエジプトに遠征に来た際、
毎日贅沢な宴会をして楽しんでいました。
それを見かねたクレオパトラは
アントニウスにこう言いました。
「そんなものは本当の贅沢ではない。
もっと贅沢な宴を見せてやろう」
次の夜、
クレオパトラは盛大な宴会を開きましたが、
美食に慣れたローマ人には
驚く程のご馳走ではなく、アントニウスは
「クレオパトラの贅沢とはこんなものか」
とがっかりしました。
